Coding at the Primary School

As part of a re-vamped Computing curriculum at Foley’s School, all children from Infants 1 through to Prep will embark on an exciting and challenging language learning journey. We aren’t learning Catalan, Tongan or Gaelic. No, we are learning the language of computers - Coding!

What is Coding?

Coding makes it possible for us to create computer software, apps and websites. Your web browser, your computer’s operating system, the apps on your phone, even this website update – they're all made (or written) using code. We feel that, in an ever-increasingly digital world, our responsibility is to equip our learners to ‘speak’ the language of computing, not that they may merely communicate, rather that they are able to write the future.

As part of our Coding programme of study, our learners will develop skills in Block Coding, HTML and Python. We could explain each of these ‘languages’, but we’d rather your children share their learning with you.
