Despite the unusually cold weather, the tradition of ‘Tsiknopempti’ was celebrated at Foley’s on Thursday 16th February. At the primary school all the pupils from Reception classes up to Prep enjoyed part of their school day playing traditional games in the playground including sack race, egg and spoon race and tug of war, while listening to Greek music and joining in some lively dancing with their teachers! This was followed by tasty Pitta bread with sausages, chicken and halloumi were thoroughly relished by the pupils and staff! Meanwhile, at the secondary school the air was full of the smell which gives its name to the day as everyone tucked into sausages and halloumi. Tsikna’ is the smell of meat that cooks over a flame and ‘Pempti’ is Thurdsay! Proceeds from the event went to the school’s Charities Fund.
