This year’s Science Fair was based on the theme of plastic – its use and misuse. Form 3 presented demonstrations about the recycling of plastic waste and alternatives to commonly used plastics, such as bioplastics and other biodegradables. The centre-piece was a huge whale made out of plastic bottles and bags by the Art Department (they didn’t want to be left out!). The fair began with a very informative presentation about plastic waste and recycling by Efrosyni Antoniou, an environmental expert and consultant from Friends of the Earth. She also judged the various other science projects which were also on display. Winners of the Intermediate section were Artur, Marko and Ivan (F3) along with Marco (F2) with their face and voice recognition toaster (yes, really!). The winner of the senior section was Artem (F4) with his hand-gesture remote controlled car. Congratulations to all who took part. Many thanks to Miss Siew for all her hard work in preparing demonstrations and to Efrosyni Antoniou for spending the afternoon with us.
